Book Review: Restless Virgins by Abigail Jones and Marissa Miley

I recently read "Restless Virgins" a book about a sex scandal at Milton Academy in 2005, a private school in Milton, Mass. By the way, my husband was from Milton and my in-laws still live there. When I was growing up in Boston, we thought the kids from Milton Academy were snobs but we never would have guessed this! I wonder if this was happening in the 1970s too??
This book is scary for those of us who are parents of teenagers. The book has probably less than 20 pages in it about the actual scandal, the inspiration for the book. So if you wanted to read only about that, then you may be disappointed. The authors, graduates of Milton Academy, Abigail Jones and Marissa Miley, actually interviewed many students and former students of the Academy and that is how they put together an entire book. These kids have more sexual experiences than many adults. As a parent it is scary to think about.

I think parents of teens should read this book. This stuff happens. It's real and let's hope our kids are not doing these things but we have to be aware that this does happen in practically every high school across the country. Warning: the book is very descriptive of sexual activities so if that's something you don't want to read about, then you have been forewarned. The authors did a very good job of interviewing and are very detailed in their descriptions of the town and the school. They managed to take one incident and awaken the public about teenagers, their sexuality and high school. Shocking and eye-opening! Not to be missed!
